… Brick & Steel Border Counties Rally, Fri/Sat 17/18 March …
This year’s Brick & Steel Border Counties Rally marks a departure from the norm, as in addition to being the second round of this year’s ARR Craib Scottish Rally Championship it will also form the opening round of the 2017 Prestone British Rally Championship – 2 major events for the price of one!
The full entry list is printed below the Spectator Information, but it is in two parts. On Friday evening the BRC registered crews will contest two stages before being joined by the National and club crews on Saturday morning to contest a total of 7 stages on the Saturday.
The trouble is, those Scottish crews who are taking part in the BRC ’round’ of the event will not be allowed to score points in Saturday’s SRC ’round’. That’s because they will be allowed to recce the stages on Friday whereas the National competitors are not allowed to recce. In other words those competitors registered in both championships will have to decide which one to choose.
David Bogie has already made that decision and will play his ‘joker’, this is a unique additional points scoring opportunity created by the BRC organisers whereby drivers are allowed to nominate one round of the series for double points. Tom Cave will also play his joker. A brave move since he will be debuting a brand new car, the Hyundai i20 R5.
So if you’re out and about watching this weekend, please be careful and be mindful of the narrow roads in the area. The Polis will be active too!
STAGE INFORMATION
START / FINISH – Abbey Place, Jedburgh
Scrutineering commences in Abbey Place on Friday 17th March from 11.00am. At 6.00pm the BRC competitors will line up in Abbey Place for a media and autograph session prior to the first car setting off at 7.00pm.

SPECIAL STAGE 1 & 2 – Craik1 & 2
Stage 1 first car 7.50pm / Stage 2 first car 8.50pm
Spectator Area A is accessed via the B709 Ettrick to Eskdalemuir road. Enter the forest at the Gair. This car park will not be staffed until you reach the stage. Travel the forest road to an excellent hairpin junction with good viewing of the stage leading to the hairpin. There will not be any facilities at this location.
PLEASE ENSURE THE ACCESS ROADS ARE KEPT CLEAR as they may be needed by Rescue Units in case of emergency. The Police will issue Parking Tickets to anyone they consider is inappropriately parked on the public road. Please drive carefully.
SPECIAL STAGE 3 – Wauchope
First car 9.15am
Enter the forest from B6357 Bonchester Bridge to Newcastleton at the ‘Note of the Gate’. Follow the spectator arrows and park as instructed. There is a turning point for vehicles. Please do NOT block this area. This will give easy walking access to Posts 6 and 10.

SPECIAL STAGE 4 – Hyndlee

SPECIAL STAGE 5 & 8 – Elibank 1 & 2
Stage 5 first car 11.49am / Stage 8 first car 2.57pm
To access Spectators Area C turn off the A72 in Walkerburn heading south across the River Tweed at the rugby club. Stay left on to the minor road and follow the spectator arrows for a short distance to West Bold. Enter the forest here, drive slowly through the forestry village onto the Glenbenna Burn road and park as instructed. Walkerburn Parent Toddler Group will be staffing this car park.
Absolutely no parking at the forestry village! Residents have welcomed the rally, so please help us further that goodwill. There is almost 1 mile of parking before the stage, this gives easy walking access to two junctions in close proximity where there are excellent views. We are expecting larger numbers this year and have arranged overflow parking should it be required. There will be toilet facilities and the Juicy Meat Co will be on hand to supply hot food, tea and coffee. M-Sport will have merchandise for sale and the BRC sponsor Prestone will have some giveaways for spectators.

The minor road south of the River Tweed is very narrow and verges are very soft. Any parking in passing places will be dealt with appropriately. Please use the area suggested and help
us maintain the goodwill we have encountered when visiting residents. This will ensure we can all return in future.
Despite the Organising Team taking all reasonable precautions, Motorsport can be dangerous and unavoidable incidents can happen. You are present at your own risk and should take responsibility for your own safety.
