Tyneside Stages Rally, Otterburn …
Quite a few of our lot are heading south to Otterburn Ranges this Sunday for the Wilkinson Maintenance Tyneside Stages on the 11th, even though it only counts towards the Borders Rally Championship as far as we are concerned.
However, this event also counts towards the REIS Get Connected MSA National Asphalt Rally Championship, ANECCC SG Petch Stage Rally Championship and the AS Performance North of England Tarmacadam Rally Championship. So it has attracted a top quality entry including Damian Cole and Paul Bird in their Ford Focus WRC machines, not to mention Stephen Simpson in the Impreza WRC and John Indri in the demonic Darrian.
There are two Scots in the top ten, David Hardie and Alex Laffey, and one ‘adopted’ Scot, Peter Taylor, but further down the list there are a number of the usual suspects out getting a bit of testing in ahead of the Tunnocks Mull Rally in October. Eddie O’Donnell and Martin Baird will be joined by Yorkshire’s Andy Bird who all reckon Otterburn provides a good thrash ahead of Mull – and of course Robert Barrable is a late entry – supposedly testing ahead of Rally Deutscheland, but of course, we all know, he is really testing ahead of Mull which is a much more difficult event and far more important!?!
The rally will be held on the Otterburn Military Ranges, with the first of 9 Special Stages starting at 09.00 Hrs, with 30 second starts between the cars .
The MOD has their own Rangers who patrol the area during the rally and are equipped with digital cameras. The Rangers have the right to remove any offenders and/or vehicles from their property. PLEASE if you are requested by a Ranger or event officials to do, or not to do, something, do not argue, just do it. If following the event the organisers receive complaints from anyone concerning the conduct of any competitor, Service, or Management personnel these will be forwarded to the MSA for further action.
In other words, be careful, park sensibly and dinnae go climbing gates or fences. Stick to the roads which are open to the public.
Access to the Ranges is from the A68, on the north east side of the road, between Byrness and Otterburn village. Look out for the arrows – and be careful.
