Rd6 (of 8) 2022 KNC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship …
There’s much at stake on this weekend’s Voyonic Grampian Forest Rally. The rally counts towards both the KNC Groundworks Scottish Rally Championship and the MS UK British Rally Championship and it looks as though most of the front running contenders will be there.
Michael Binnie currently tops the Scottish points tables (143 pts) but rapidly catching up is one David Bogie Esq (112) as Michael is counting only two maximum point scores while David has three after his non-finish in the Scottish. There’s no Scott Macbeth this weekend (99) but both Mark McCulloch and Hugh Brunton share 4th place in the points standings (98 each) so there is still much to be decided as competitors count their best 6 scores from the 8 round series. That means, after this weekend those who have scored on all six rounds so far will have to start dropping scores. Game still on!
There’s a similar situation in the British Championship where Keith Cronin leads after three rounds having taken an early 11 point lead (61 pts) over Osian Pryce (50) with third placed James Williams well behind (33) and our own Garry Pearson is 4th (30). Osian is the man on form having won two of the rounds so far as against Keith’s single win, but crews count only their best 5 scores from the 7 rounds so this weekend might just open up the title chase, or maybe not!
Although there is a healthy entry of 86 cars and crews from a’pairts, there’s only 13 from Britain’s senior rally championship. Maybe they’re scared of the ghosties and ghoulies in the glens. Even so, they start with a distinct advantage over the domestic crews as they are allowed to recce the stage beforehand and make their own Notes. So remember that when perusing final results.
Nevertheless, a hugely entertaining battle in the forests is in prospect
