… Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally, 25/26 June …
Wow! What an entry for this weekend’s Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally. Can top seed Meirion Evans justify his seeding position and score his first win in the Volkswagen? Under normal circumstances one would think of course he can, but just look at the talent and experience lined up behind him. That would make normal folk go weak at the knees.
John MacCrone knows more about narrow roads than most but even he will need to keep an eye on those around him including Hugh Hunter, Melvyn Evans, Garry Jennings and Daniel Harper – each and every one of them an expert on tarmac.
However if you want some sheer excitement with added trepidation, there is just one 2WD car in the top 22 seeds, and that is the Mk2 Ford Escort of David Bogie seeded at number 7. If you think RWD stands no chance against the massed ranks of 4WDs around him think again, this ain’t no ordinary Escort. It has about as much in common with an original Ford Motor Company product as Doctor Who’s Tardis has with a post war Police box.
There is how ever one elephant in the room, or midge on the rampage, spectators. Given the current situation regarding the Covid virus, it will be Thursday 24th June – the day before the rally – that a decision will be made as to whether this will be a NO SPECTATOR event or whether spectating will be allowed in defined areas. Needless to say, rally fans will be urged to follow that advice whatever it may be. This of course will not be a decision taken by the rally organisers but much higher up the food chain!
