07 Nov: Kingdom Stages – Preview

… Kingdom Stages Rally, Sat 10th Nov …

It has often been said by pundits and hingers-oan that If you’re not in it, you can’t win it. The same message applies to spectators this weekend, as Saturday’s Kingdom Stages Rally is a NON-spectator event, so if you’re not officially involved you can’t get in. In other words, volunteer as a Marshal or join a Service Crew.

Otherwise this final round of The Cobble Shop Scottish Tarmack Rally Championship will be just like the recent England/Croatia football match. It will be held behind closed doors!

Which is a great pity as the entry looks quite tasty, especially with TWO Kirkaldys taking part – racer, stocker and rallyist Alan being joined by circuit racer Andrew and both in 2.5 Escorts. Alistair Inglis will be hoping that his engine has been returned from the mechanical exorcist in time to squidge it into the back of the Lotus while both Ian Forgan and Brian Watson will be Subaru mounted. John Rintoul is set to give the Skoda an airing while Reay MacKay is having another shot with a Fiesta R5, and he could frighten a few folk, especially since he is not renowned as a tarmack expert! Former Scottish Tarmack Champ Ross Fernie makes a welcome return to the fray in his Subaru while the Paterson brethren in the Subaru will be joined by the Escort equipped Beattie Bros completing the top ten line-up.

There’s more at stake here than victory on the rally as Michael Harbour in the Citroen is in with the best shout of The 2018 Cobble Shop Championship title although Ross McCallum in the MG could yet spring a late surprise. Cameron Craig needs wan o’ them holy tricks (miracle!) to take the title after his Peugeot’s non-finish on Otterburn and there is no Gordon Morrison who currently lies second in the series.

The rally gets underway at 09.00 Hrs with the first of 7 Stages and the last one timed to start after 5pm – so bring a torch, or two. The organisers have also sourced a new mobile ‘nourishment emporium’ offering hot food at reasonable prices. Sorted.
