All you ever wanted to know about going motor rallying under one roof at one event …
A unique event will be staged near Edinburgh on Thursday evening the 4th of February aimed primarily at those wishing to find out more about the sport of motor rallying.
Hosted by the ‘Scottish Association of Car Clubs’ this unique event is being created primarily to attract and inform newcomers to the sport and those who wish to know more. So if you know a relative, friend, colleague or neighbour who is involved in the sport, or if you are attracted to the sport having seen it on TV or played it on a games console then this will provide the ideal opportunity to arm yourself with all the facts and information in one place on one night. And it’s FREE.
On show will be a range of cars representing all forms of motor rallying, plus their drivers and co-drivers, ranging from beginners to national champions, who will be on hand to answer questions.
Each of the major championships will be represented with cars and crews from the ‘ARR Craib Scottish Rally Championship’ and the ‘Blackwood Plant Hire Scottish Tarmack Championship’ and visitors will be able to inspect the cars close-up and quiz the crews.
For those seeking an entry-level formula, the ‘Ecosse C2 Challenge’ will have a Citroen C2 rally car and crew on hand, while the 14 to 17 year olds will be catered for by a display from the ‘Ecosse Junior 1000 Challenge’. This introductory series, now in its 4th year, allows mad-keen youngsters to take the wheel of a rally car and enter a proper motor rally at just 14 years of age.
There will also be a display of off-road competition vehicles and crews from the ‘Hill Rally’ and ‘Competition Safari’ branches of the sport, plus a hands-on demonstration from experienced competitors and organisers on the attraction and challenges of ‘Navigational Rallying’ and ‘Targa’ events in bog-standard roadgoing cars.
For those who wish to get involved in the sport at a non-competing level there will be the chance to talk to Rally Marshals, Safety personnel and Rescue & Recovery crews.
And if that is not enough, during the course of the evening, resident host and compere Stewart Weir, the radio broadcaster and sports pundit, will be interviewing the rally stars and chatting with guests (in his own inimitable style!) throughout the evening.
A number of current (and past) rally stars will be in attendance on the night and further details will be released over the next few days.
A free Prize Draw for all visitors will also be held on the night with the winner getting a top prize of a Knockhill Rally Experience voucher and Knockhill staff will be on hand with one of their own rally cars. For those who wish to take their first step into active competition this could be the ideal way to start.
