… MSA makes senior safety and technical appointments …
The Motor Sports Association (MSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kate Adamson to the newly created role of Safety Director and the promotion of John Ryan to Technical Director.
Both appointments follow John Symes’ retirement as Technical Director – a post in which he had responsibility for both technical and safety matters. John is remaining with the MSA as a consultant in 2016.
Adamson joins the MSA from McLaren, where she spent 11 years as Head of Health, Safety and Environment. Her new role at the MSA will involve developing an annual safety strategy, implementing a review of safety management systems, investigating serious incidents in UK motor sports and much more.
Adamson said: “With my passion for safety and motorsport, the role at the MSA is an exciting opportunity to which I will bring the experience and enthusiasm I was able to develop during my time with McLaren. I look forward to joining MSA and making a significant contribution to its senior leadership team.”
Ryan has been an integral member of the MSA Technical Department for over 17 years, most recently as Technical Executive. He also has extensive experience of international motor sports, and currently serves as Vice President of the FIA Single-Seater Commission.
Ryan said: “Having been passionate about motorsport and engineering all my life, I feel very excited and privileged to be appointed MSA Technical Director, and I look forward to working alongside a fantastic team inside and outside Motor Sports House. Since I started at the MSA in 1998 I have been guided by some great people and recognise that I have some big shoes to fill. I am ready for the challenge.”
Rob Jones, MSA Chief Executive, added: “Further enhancing safety across UK motor sports is a top priority for the MSA, and I have no doubt that Kate is the right person to lead that vital part of our remit as the national governing body.
“On the technical side, John has built up a wealth of specific knowledge, skills and experience over nearly two decades. He is highly respected both in domestic and international motor sports governance, and I have no doubt he will prove to be a very effective Technical Director for the MSA.
“On behalf of the MSA and the entire UK motor sports community, I would like to thank John Symes for a huge amount of hard work and dedication over more than 20 years at Motor Sports House. We are delighted he is remaining with us as on a consultancy basis, which will help ensure a smooth transition, in
particular with regard to track licensing.”
