… Knockhill … Heads South …
As Knockhill Racing Circuit gears itself up for a busy season ahead, Knockhill Events Director Stuart Gray will be heading south later this month to attend another exhibition, ‘Race Retro’.
“We received such a positive response to our presence at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham three weeks ago, that we decided to visit Race Retro as well, “said Stuart, “this will provide another ideal opportunity to tell race and rally fans what Knockhill has planned for the 2015 season.”
“We had Colin McRae’s 1995 World Rally Championship title winning Subaru Impreza on our stand in Birmingham, but for Race Retro we will have something different. Rally fans are already getting very excited about the forthcoming ‘McRae Rally Challenge’ which we are staging at Knockhill on the weekend of May 16/17. This unique event will commemorate the 20th anniversary of Scotland’s Colin McRae and Derek Ringer winning the World Rally Championship, the first Brits to do so.”
Held at Stoneleigh Park in Coventry over the weekend of Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd February the annual Race Retro event is a celebration of all things automotive and sporting, attracting many thousands of race and rally fans to a pre-season aural and visual treat. In addition to a vast array of static displays there will be a live action rally stage.
The McRae Rally Challenge at Knockhill in May will have a similar format. It too will have a live action rally stage running on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. There will also be track parades and demonstrations in addition to a huge number of static displays before and after the rally stage activity.
“We are also planning to have the biggest collection of ex-Colin McRae rally cars on show to the public in Scotland for the first time,” added Stuart, “since we appeared at the Autosport Show many more people have approached us offering some wonderful ex-McRae rally cars for display. These will include not only his title winning Subaru Impreza but other Subarus he has driven, as well as a number of Ford Focus WRC, Ford Sierra Cosworth and Ford Escort Mk2 cars. We will also have some of his early competition cars on show too.”
It’s not only the rally fans who are getting excited about May’s event. The event will receive support from EventScotland and commercial backing from Beatson’s Building Supplies.
