Jim says it won’t have the wing!

Immediately after this weekend’s Colin McRae Forest Stages Rally (4/5 October) at Aberfeldy, Jim McRae will have to hastily repack his bags, race suit and crash helmet and head off to Italy to take part in the annual ‘Rally Legends’ event in San Marino.

“It is an honour to be invited,” said Jim McRae as he talked about his entry on ‘Rally Legends’ which takes place in San Marino in Italy between 10th-13th October 2013.

This 13th running of the event has again attracted many of the World’s leading Rally drivers including many former World Rally Champions.

The course car, a Volkswagen Polo WRC will be driven by Carlos Sainz and Luis Moya. Miki Biasion has entered a Lancia Delta HF, Didier Auriol (Citroen Xsara WRC), Gustavo Trelles (Toyota Celica STI 205), Per Eklund (VW Golf G60 Rallie), Sandro Munari (Lancia Stratos), Harald Demuth (Audi Quattro), Markku Alen and Harry Toivonen will both be driving Lancia Rally 037s.

Jim added: “I have been invited to this event in previous years but due to prior commitments was unable to attend. I am very happy to be amongst the invited Rally Legends especially when you look at the entry list. I am looking forward to driving the V8 Can Am Firenza – it will be fun. I drove the car at Lurgan Park in 2012, won the class and was awarded the trophy for the most entertaining driver.”

Team Manager (or owner) Mick Stafford of XS Racing bought the Chevrolet Firenza Can Am from South Africa where it was previously rallied. Mick said, “I know how much Jim enjoys driving the car and it was our intention to go to Rally Legends for fun, but it is getting more serious by the day, it will be a great experience for us all. Jim has been to the workshop and with a few changes to the suspension we are all ready for the Italian roads”.

Co-driver Pauline Gullick (from Yate near Bristol) has been studying the regulations and route as Jim has been invited to run in the Legend Stars category ahead of the main event.
