07 March: Marshals Wanted

Marshals Wanted for Border Counties …. The Brick and Steel Border Counties Rally is just around the corner, and they need Marshals. If you have never marshalled before then don’t worry, there will be plenty of experienced Marshals and Marshalesses to guide you and help out.

Marshal01This year’s event counts towards the ARR Craib Scottish Rally Championship and the Ecosse Challenge, plus the SG Petch ANECCC series, Borders Rally Championship and the Northern Historic Championship, so there will be plenty of folk tempted to get out of their armchairs and go into the woods to watch, hence the need for Marshals.

This year’s event has stages in Craik, Hyndlee, Wauchope and Bewshaugh, with main service in Hawick, so if you libe near any of these forests, your help will be warmly welcomed.

The rally will start from Jedburgh Abbey Place at 08.31 hrs although Marshals will need to be on duty from 07.15 hrs to approximate closure time of 11.00 hrs.

SS1 Hyndlee, 08.58  hrs – Marshal Duty Time 07.15 hrs to approx 11.35 am. Stage start is off the A6088 between Bonchester Bridge and Carter Bar

SS2 Wauchope, 09.19 hrs – Marshal Duty Time 07.35 hrs to approx 12 noon. Stage start is off the B6357 south of Bonchester Bridge.

There will also be a Passage Control after the Stage 2 finish.

The Service area in the Hawick Common Haugh Car Park from 10.03 hrs will also neede marshals from 08.30 till approx 14.45.

SS3 Craik, 11.13 hrs – Marshal Duty Time 09.30 to approx 14.15. Stage start is off the B711 Hawick – Ettrick road and then the unclassified road south of Roberton towards Craik Village.

There will be another Passage Control after the Stage 3 finish followed by second service in the Hawick Common Haugh Car Park.

SS4 Bewshaugh, 13.22 – Marshal Duty Time 11.40 to approx 16.00. Stage start is off the C200 opposite Matthew’s Linn car park.

Another Passage Control will follow after the Stage 4 finish.

SS5 Riccarton, 14.07 – Marshal Duty Time 12.25 to approx 16.45. Stage start is north of Riccarton Junction off the B6357 followed by another Passage Control.

The Rally Finish will be back at Jedburgh Abbey Place from 14.45 hrs onwards with Marshal Duty Time from 13.45 to approx 17.15 hrs.

If anyone can volunteer then the organisers will try to accommodate any requirements for preferred locations or duties. As always we will be providing food and drink, Border Counties hats and other goodies to you and your colleagues.

Marshaling and officiating on events always provides a grand excuse to get out in the fresh air. Yes, it might be wet, and it might be cold, but it will most certainly be fresh!

As ever, Marshals’ goodie bags will be doled out to stop the starving from eating trees or hunting rabbits, and you might even get a woolly hat for your heid!
